The CON Porcelain and glass insulators are an integral part of the streetscape and rural landscapes that have taken on a wide variety of shapes and colors. For many of us, the passion for collecting began as a layman in early childhood and then led us down the professional path. For some, it remained a simple hobby into adulthood, even though they are not professionals. In the early 1950s, collectors in the United States began to organize meetings and "insulator shows". At these gatherings, collectors met, shared their experiences, popularized the hobby, and exchanged duplicates among themselves. Later, people from Australia joined the meetings. You can read more about this at the National Insulator Association www.nia.org . In Europe, meetings began in the early 2000s in France, the United Kingdom and Germany. Then, in 2010, in a speech in a village near Stuttgart, Prof. Ulrich Reiser founded the European meetings in such a way that the so-called "Let's Gather" meetings would take place every two years in different places, and the "Let's Collect" meetings would take place in the intervening years. We came next in line to organize the event during the 2022 meeting in Krefeld, where the choice fell on Szekszárd as the next hosting location. Along with the first occasion to host, Szekszárd is also the hometown of one of the Hungarian collections, and their owner. (Maps location: "Insulator Collection Szelszárd") |
We participated in the Szekszárd meeting with 15 people; guests came from Germany, the Czech Republic, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Austria and the United States. The arrival of the guests started with a lot of packing work, the many boxes were brought in, unpacked, placed on the tables, and then the stories and exchanges began. There was a lot of sharing of experiences about "insulator hunting", i.e. insulator hunting, collecting experiences, insulator applications, their origins, manufacturers, factories and branding. After that everyone started to pack the replacements and the insulators we brought were almost all "sold out" and the individual collections continued to grow. It is important to mention here that the exchange is based on "Bartell" depending on the degree of rarity. Helping each other with collections is an advantage of the American method. In the USA, everything is categorized in terms of money, as it is known in the field of numismatics or stamp collecting. The evening ended with a wine tasting and dinner at the Szekszárd Borkút, where András Boa, secretary of the Paks MEE, gave a short speech, with Miklós Moser interpreting into English. Among other things, he mentioned that Paks MEE and MEE had contributed financially to the successful organization of the event, for which the organizers thanked them. Uniform T-shirts and commemorative insulation were made for the event. The next organization was given to František Daňek.
